Originally known as Burlington Industries Flint Mill No 2, this two-story, 250,000 square-foot building was constructed in 1923 by Robert and Company, an architectural and engineering firm headquartered in Atlanta, and Turner Construction Company, the leading contractor in the United States per Engineering News Record.
At the time, it was the second largest mill in Gastonia, North Carolina, billed as the “Combed Yarn Capital” of the world for its production of the optimum yarn for weaving distinguished by its superior smoothness.
C.A. Harrison Company’s $50-million redevelopment of the former textile plant will transform the historical mill into one-, two- and three-bedroom luxury lofts.
